Hello! It’s good to see you here. I’m Tom Crocker and Diabetes Alive is a project of mine. I’m interested in helping everyone who has diabetes, or has family, friends or other loved ones who have it, get what it takes to make my tag line “Live Strong, Live Healthy, Live Now” come true.
I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2006, a few months before my 50th birthday. I found out the hard way. I had lost a good 25 pounds and felt like I had the flu for weeks. I never stopped being thirsty. By the time I got to the doctor, my blood sugar was well over 500. I was sent straight to the hospital. I was very surprised at how little they told me about diabetes, how to manage it, and the changes I was going to need to make. Since I had a background in systems analysis and counseling, I set out to find out for myself.
There really is a mountain of great information about diabetes out there in books, on the web and through Diabetes Educators, so the problem isn’t finding it as much as it is sorting through it and boiling it down to everyday actions and principles. I can help you with this.
My personal and professional experience is finding a home here. Diabetes isn’t something you can do with a simple formula or recipe. It’s work. It’s also an opportunity to change, get stronger and live a more focused, exciting life. So, join me here. We want to hear from you and learn from your experience as well. As this site grows, we’ll add more ways for you to do this. For now, you can contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I also provide professional coaching and counseling services.
